Reddit Citations Are Dropping in ChatGPT | Promptwatch

GBTI NetworkPromptWatch reports that Reddit’s share of ChatGPT Search citations fell from 3.83% in late July and early August to just 0.52% by August 14–17, 2026, an 86.4% decline. The drop followed a major change in ChatGPT’s search behavior, including much heavier use of domain-specific site: searches that may favor primary sources over Reddit discussions.
Search Engine Journal notes that the August 8 search change does not fully explain the sharper August 14 collapse, so the cause remains unconfirmed. Still, the decline is notable because Reddit has historically been a major source of human discussion for AI search systems.
