Google DeepMind releases predictions for 9 billion human DNA variants

DeepMind has built something resembling an AI “Google Maps” of human genetic mutations, showing researchers where potentially important mutations are, but not yet telling doctors with certainty what those mutations mean for a person.

Researchers could use it to identify important mutations sooner, improving rare-disease diagnosis, cancer research, drug discovery, gene therapy, and eventually personalized medicine.

The key benefit is that instead of testing billions of DNA changes one by one, scientists now have a predicted map showing which mutations are most worth investigating.
