LG TV flaws could let attackers listen in, even in standby mode

GBTI NetworkSecurity researchers demonstrated that compromised LG smart TVs can capture room audio through their microphones even when the television appears to be off, store that audio while disconnected from the internet, and retrieve it after the connection is restored. Their investigation also found that LG TVs scan local networks for nearby devices and collect information about surrounding Wi-Fi networks, while ACR technology can identify what is being watched or heard through the television. LG disputes the claim that ordinary, uncompromised televisions routinely record ambient conversations, but the security finding itself is clear: an LG smart TV can become a functioning network-connected listening device if compromised.
