GBTI NetworkWarit “Tonnam” Techakanont is a Thai pianist, composer, arranger, and educator whose work centers on jazz while extending into classical, experimental, electronic, and improvised music. He began studying piano at age four, later studied jazz piano at Rangsit University, and has won several competitions, including first prize in the jazz division of the 2022 Rubato International Piano Competition. He performs internationally and has released dozens of recordings as a solo artist.¹
On YouTube, Warit also shares solo piano interpretations, including his cover of “One Day,” the 2015 collaboration between Nikki Yanofsky and Jacob Collier. The original combines piano and voice with the rich, unexpected harmony that would become closely associated with Collier’s music, giving Warit plenty of room to reinterpret it through his own jazz-oriented playing.²
If Warit’s version catches your attention, listen to the original as well. Yanofsky and Collier’s recording provides the musical foundation for the arrangement and makes it easier to appreciate what Warit preserves, changes, and explores when he brings the song to solo piano.²
