Tim Bernardes: Tiny Desk Concert
From the member
GBTI NetworkBrazilian singer-songwriter Tim Bernardes performs alone with his guitar for NPR Music’s El Tiny series, part of its Latin Music Month programming. The four-song set moves through “Praga,” “Poeira Cósmica,” “Realmente Lindo,” and “Eu Vou,” placing the focus almost entirely on Bernardes’ voice, guitar playing, and songwriting.
The stripped-down performance is a notable contrast with his 2025 appearance on Tiny Desk Brasil, where Bernardes brought a 17-piece orchestra into the studio. Here, the arrangements are reduced to a single performer, giving the songs a different scale while retaining the melancholy and optimism that run through much of his work.
The set also draws from several different parts of Bernardes’ career. “Praga” was written with Erasmo Carlos and originally recorded by Brazilian singer Alaíde Costa before Bernardes released his own version. “Poeira Cósmica” originated as a 2024 collaboration with Canadian jazz group BADBADNOTGOOD, with string arrangements by Brazilian composer Arthur Verocai. “Eu Vou” comes from atrás/além, the 2019 album by Bernardes’ band O Terno.
NPR’s set closes with “Eu Vou,” whose movement from emotional weight toward choosing to live more freely fits the larger theme producer Anamaria Sayre identifies in the performance: melancholy is present, but Bernardes keeps pushing through it toward something more hopeful.
