North Korea Robbed Binance. Can Anyone Get the Money Back?

GBTI NetworkPatrick Boyle examines the October 2026 Binance breach, where roughly $6.3 billion in digital assets were stolen from the exchange.1 The FBI attributes the attack to North Korea’s TraderTraitor operation and says the group has been converting stolen assets primarily into Ether for further laundering.2
Binance says its preliminary investigation points to a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop rather than leaked wallet private keys, and that billions in affected assets have since been frozen or intercepted.3
Boyle goes much further into how the attack unfolded, the role of social engineering and crypto infrastructure, and what the response reveals about how decentralized the modern cryptocurrency industry really is.
